Five Ways to Make Your Brand More Relatable Online

If you’ve ever felt like you’re posting online and nobody’s connecting with it, you’re not alone. When I first started building my brand, I thought the key was being polished and professional all the time. I wanted everything to look perfect. But over time, I realized people don’t fall in love with perfect. They fall in love with real. The more honest and human I became online, the more my audience started to trust me.

So if you’re trying to build a brand that feels personal, not distant, here are five ways to make it more relatable online.

First, tell your story. People want to know who you are and what drives you. You don’t have to share every detail of your life, but talk about what inspired you to start your business or what keeps you going when things get tough. When people see your heart behind the work, they connect with you on a whole different level.

Second, show your face. I know, being on camera can feel awkward at first, but people connect with people, not logos. Post photos or short videos of yourself working, sharing tips, or even just saying hello. Let them see the person behind the brand. It builds trust faster than any ad ever could.

Third, use your real voice. Write the way you talk. You don’t have to sound corporate or overly curated. The posts that do best are often the ones that sound like a conversation between friends. If you’d say it over coffee, it’ll probably sound great online too.

Fourth, engage with people. Don’t just post and disappear. Reply to comments, ask questions, and celebrate your followers. Building community is part of building a brand. When people feel like you care about them, they’ll care more about what you do.

And fifth, share the behind-the-scenes moments. Let folks see the process, not just the final product. Share the messy middle, the late-night brainstorming, or the lessons learned from a project that didn’t go as planned. Those moments remind people that you’re human and relatable, and that authenticity builds loyalty.

At the end of the day, your brand isn’t just what you sell. It’s how people feel when they interact with you. When you show up as your true self, imperfect, hardworking, and passionate, you attract the kind of audience that genuinely believes in what you do.

So take the pressure off being perfect. Be present, be real, and keep showing up as you. That’s what people connect with the most.
